Looking back in the past two months, my training at Aszist has diversified my perspectives on bullying. Going into training by our Professor Maxim Pereira with the single goal of learning how to be ‘good listeners’, seemed a bit like an unnecessary stretch. I thought to myself, it’s easy to listen to people. You just have to hear the words said by them, but this training has taught me that to listen and to hear people could make a huge difference. To infer from someone else's words isn’t as easy as I imagined. Hearing is the power to perceive sound but to listen is to not only hear but also grasp the true meaning behind their words. And just having someone to listen to you can really change the way things would have turned out. Every class gave me a wider perspective on various topics that were brought to light on bullying. We talked about so many things! An example being the types of responses. I wasn't even aware that there were many types of responses! All sessions were filled with a sense of fun and passion. We had multiple classes where we got to play the roles of both clients and listeners to be prepared for our upcoming jobs. We got a few guest lecturers to come in and help us understand more on the “setting up a business” part and we had two new members join our core team. It took a lot of work and coordinating to bring all the members every friday for a one and a half hour session but it was managed well. We talked about posture, vocabulary, tone, communication styles, reasons behind why people bully, skills and responses to deal with bullying, why bullying is such a serious issue, how it affects people and ways we could maybe tackle it. To end with, I would like to highlight how this experience was overall. It was definitely not a breeze arranging transport and collaborating together but the inspiration and knowledge I received from my peers and wonderful trainer Dr. Maxim, led me to get things done. On that note, I would also like to thank Dr. John Tharakan and his team from BeIvy for arranging this for us and for graciously giving us space to work as well. These past two months have been a complete pleasure to me because I got to learn all these new skills and receiving all this new information. We as a team have progressed throughout these two months and will continue to do so through the days to come. If you would like to reach out to us, either for feedback or future plans or for help, you can do so through the communication box in the website or dm our page on Instagram (handle: aszist) Looking forward to hearing some great things! Yours truly Aszist
