Moon Child

If you've ever been told that what you're going through is a phase,

If your sexuality intrigues them, your gender confuses them,

If they ask you point-blank how you know for sure there's been no mistake,

Tell them no one ever has a straight path in self-discovery,

You can explore yourself completely and even come full circle,

One cycle of the moon does not outweigh the next, or the next.

You're learning, and growing, and that's completely okay.

I want you to know that a half moon is no less than a whole,

Your value does not decrease because a part of you lived hidden,

Stowed away in the shadow of expectations, crushed under the weight of being scared.

I want you to know that you can wax and grow, illuminating the parts of you you're eventually comfortable with sharing,

But please don't begin to wane away because somebody else can't accept you,

Because they don't "believe in that".

The only sin here is that bigotry blinds them,

The only wrong here is that being true offends them,

After all,

How many people in society are bold in enough,

To be exactly who they want to be?
